How it works
Every letter in your text is changed to its capital form as you type. Numbers, punctuation, spaces and line breaks are left untouched. Accented and non-English letters are converted correctly too, so café becomes CAFÉ and straße becomes STRASSE, following the standard Unicode rules your browser uses.
When to use uppercase
All caps grabs attention, which is why it works for short pieces of text: button labels, warning notices, table headers, acronyms, product codes and spreadsheet column names. Some forms and official documents also ask for names and addresses in capital letters to make handwriting-style data easier to read.
For longer passages, uppercase gets harder to read. Words in all caps lose their distinctive shape, so readers slow down. Online, a full sentence in capitals can also come across as shouting. If you need emphasis in a paragraph, bold or a short all-caps phrase usually works better than capitalizing everything.
Uppercase and SEO
Search engines treat uppercase and lowercase the same, so capitalizing a page title won't change rankings. It can change how the result looks, though. A fully capitalized title tag often reads as spammy in search results, and capital letters take up more pixel width, so Google may cut the title short sooner. Title Case or Sentence case is usually the safer choice for titles and meta descriptions.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make text all caps in Word or Google Docs?
In Word, select the text and press Shift+F3 to cycle through cases, or use Format > Font > All caps. In Google Docs, use Format > Text > Capitalization > UPPERCASE. For text in other apps, paste it here and copy it back.
Does it work with other languages?
Yes, for any script that has upper and lower case, including accented Latin, Greek, Cyrillic and Armenian. Scripts without case, such as Arabic, Urdu, Chinese or Hindi, stay unchanged.
Will numbers and symbols change?
No. Only letters are converted. Digits, punctuation, emoji and spacing remain exactly as you typed them.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for caps?
Caps Lock only affects new typing. To change existing text, you need your editor's case command or a converter like this one.
