What sentence case means
Sentence case is the way normal writing is capitalized: the first letter of each sentence is a capital, and everything else is lowercase, apart from proper nouns. It's the most readable style for paragraphs, and many companies now use it for headings, buttons and menus too because it feels friendly and clear.
How this converter decides where sentences start
The tool lowercases your text, then capitalizes:
- the first letter of the text,
- the first letter after a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark followed by a space,
- the first letter of every new line,
- the pronoun "I" on its own, including in contractions such as "I'm" and "I've".
Best uses
Fixing text typed in caps lock is the most common one: paste the shouty paragraph and get readable text back in a second. It's also handy for cleaning up content copied from PDFs or old systems that stored everything in capitals, and for rewriting Title Case headings into sentence case when a style guide changes.
Check proper nouns afterwards
Because the converter can't tell which words are names, places or brands, those will come out in lowercase if they aren't at the start of a sentence. Skim the result and capitalize names like "London", "Google" or "Sarah" before you publish. Abbreviations with full stops, such as "e.g." or "Dr.", may also cause the next word to be capitalized, so give those a quick look too.
